Down on the farm

Worked as a volunteer on an organic farm in West Argentina for 2 weeks - wish it could have been more, but was also lots of hard work. Picking apples, picking apples, collecting apples from the ground, picking more apples, then squeezing the juice out of them and bottling it up, then picking some more apples for the next batch! You get the picture. We also made salsa a couple of times, which involved getting very messy with tomatoes. All the family is so welcoming and nice. All veggie and some are vegan, the food at lunch and dinner is lovely, especially on Friday when the father makes bread and pizza in the wood-fired oven. Perfecto! There were lots of other volunteers from all over too - France, US, England, Argie, Israel, Canada, Chile - but mainly everyone spoke Spanish, so its been good practice for me. Quite scary the first few days when nearly everything said went woosh over my head, but soon got more used to it. The family have had the farm for 10 years, and are so sosooooo healthy. The mother is really into her naturopathic remedies and a couple of volunteers who were ill with colds and tummybugs were treated to a lovely diet of onion drinks! Onions cure everything! I thought I would lose loads of weight on diet of veggies but there was so much food at the table everyday, it was really amazing - but I feel I earned my keep with all the manzanas I picked!
