Blue mountains - 3 sisters

Went back to Katoomba in the Blue mountains to see the sights this time. The 3 sisters were apparently real women who were turned into rock (see pic) because they were in love with some men in a different tribe to them, and weren't allowed to marry them. The witchdoctor who turned them into stone to keep them from harm in the ensuing tribal war was killed before he could turn them back...yeah whatever - they were bloody ugly sisters anyway by the looks of it!

The valley where the sisters are is huge though. Was a bit disappointed because they've built a "viewing area" which kind of makes it less of a natural spectacle and more like some sanitised tourist attraction. There are lots of walks through the jungle in the valley though - very steep steps down, and either a steep walk up, or you can get this funicular train which is built at a 45 degree slope - v scary!

VERY nice fish and chips in Katoomba - they do all sorts of different fish, and the batter is so light and crispy. The only thing they haven't quite got is the lack of vinegar - I need to start carrying a bottle around with me, as they don't put vinegar on their chips!!

Katoomba also has lots of "bonzer" (nice - not actually heard anyone say bonzer in real life, but its an Oz word, so...) cafes with nice cakes, and a chocolate "factory" where they make their own very nice stuff, and had a big display of a woman made out of white chocolate with lots of flowers around her... not for eating though :-(

Almost the best thing was the train ride back to Sydney. The sunset turned the sky all orange and red, then purpleyblue and I've got loads of blurry pictures I took as we were speeding along the track. My camera skills are still quite poor despite having taking a few million already this year.
